When Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish allowed David Clegg to join Pools he described him as the bargain free transfer of the 1996 close season. With this in mind Pools supporters looked forward to great things from the young winger. sadly, it didn't really work out for Clegg. He was in and out of the side throughout the season, showing only glimpses of what what he was capable of. He was released at the end of the season when Tait reduced the size of his squad.
