Striker Rodney began his career at Nottingham Forest in his home city. He made his league debut while at Forest but found opportunities limited, and had brief loan spells at Ilkeston Town and Burton Albion. On leaving the City Ground he had a similarly frustrating time at Bradford City, where he was also loaned out, this time to Darlington and Mansfield. After further spells at Lincoln City and Telford United, Rodney found himself without a club in the summer of 2013. New Pools manager Colin Cooper, who knew the striker from his Bradford days, invited him up for a trial and took him on the pre-season tour to Holland. Rodney did hos chances of a contract no harm with some encouraging displays, and he scored in the friendlies against Almere City and Whitby Town. Cooper decided to give him another crack at league football by offering him a contract four days before the start of the new season. Used almost exclusively as a substitute, Rodney made 15 competitive appearances during his one season at the club, with his only goal being an overhead effort against Bradford City in a Football League Trophy match. He was released towards the end of the season.
