Former Oldham Athletic winger Sidney Schmeltz became Hartlepool United's first ever Dutch player when he arrived at the Vic during Paul Murray's short-lived time as Pools manager in October 2014. Schmeltz made an instant impression when his lively substitute appearance helped to inspire his side to a 2-2 draw from two goals down against Newport County. Sadly that was as good as it got for the 25-year old, and he made just six more appearances before being released by new manager Ronnie Moore when his short term deal expired at the end of the year.
