After a prolific non-league spell in which he scored 131 goals in 130 league games, Eifion Williams made his league debut for Torquay United against Pools in March 1999, scoring a hat trick. This left an impression on Chris Turner, and Williams was linked with Pools on a regular basis over the next couple of seasons. Turner finally got his man three years after that memorable debut, and Williams made his first appearance in a Hartlepool shirt in March 2002. He made his full debut at Oxford three weeks later, scoring both goals in a 2-1 win, and went on to start in each of the remaining six games, scoring three times including one in the playoff semi-final against Cheltenham Town. Williams finished as top scorer in the promotion season of 2002/03 with 16 goals, the highlight being a brace in the 4-1 home derby win over Darlington. In the following campaign, Eifion chipped in with 14 goals to finish as leading scorer for the second consecutive season. This was achieved despite playing several games on the right wing as Neale Cooper experimented with his striking options. Eifion`s consistent good work was rewarded when Mark Hughes named him in the Wales squad to play two friendlies in May 2004. Unfortunately, he had to drop out of the squad with an injury picked up in the playoff semi-final against Bristol City. Williams continued to be a valuable member of the first team squad and, despite now being used mainly in a midfield role, still chipped in with important goals including one in the 2005 League One playoff final against Sheffield Wednesday, and a stunning goal of the season against arch-rivals Darlington during the promotion season of 2006/07. That successful season proved to to be Eifion`s last in a Pools shirt. He was released in the summer of 2007 as Danny Wilson looked to freshen up his squad in preparation for a season in League One.
