Jim Provett

Goalkeeper Jim Provett made his debut for Pools as part of a second string eleven in an Associate Members Cup tie in 2002 but had to wait until the following season before establishing himself. Neale Cooper dropped regular goalkeeper Anthony Williams after one game of the 2003/04 season and threw Provett in for the League Cup tie at Sheffield Wednesday. Provett responded with a wonderful performance, keeping Pools in the game with a string of fine saves including one in the shootout as Pools won the tie on penalties.

Provett kept hold of the goalkeeper`s shirt for the remainder of the season and his performances (the highlight being a spectacular double save at home to Wycombe) won him both the Supporters` and the Players` Player of the Season awards. In the 2004/05 season Provett met with fierce competition for the number one spot from Dimitrios Konstantopoulos as for the first time in recent memory Pools had two keepers worthy of being ranked among the best in the division. Provett ultimately lost that particular battle, with Konstantopoulos starting every league game in 2005/06 and 2006/07. Perhaps frustrated with a lack of first-team opportunities, Provett left the club in the summer of 2007 and signed a 12-month contract with Bury.
