Match Report

Pools moved into the top half of League Two with a routine win against a direct and physical opponent. The Cobblers almost took a lead inside two minutes when Jacob Blyth's header hit the inside of the post and rebounded into the arms of a grateful Scott Flinders. But from then on it was all Pools as the visitors barely posed a meaningful threat. Luke James opened the scoring midway through the first half, expertly controlling Matty Dolan's long pass before smashing past Matt Duke. The second goal came from the penalty spot after the excellent James Poole had his heels clipped by Paul Reid after surging into the box. Simon Walton did the business from twelve yards. The rest of the match was a stroll in the park as Pools completed a straightforward victory, with the only downside being a caution for Andy Monkhouse that would would earn the influential midfielder a one match suspension.

James Poole got in to some tremendous positions and was a real impact player for us. He deserves a big pat on the back for what he did on the ball today. Everyone else did a really good job as well though; the second goal didn’t flatter us and if we’d gone and got a third and a fourth I don’t think that would have flattered us either.
- Colin Cooper
When we make daft, stupid decisions that gift goals then I find that very hard to take. If another team beats you then fair enough but we did things that were stupid, utter stupidity and you wouldn’t see teams on park pitches do them.
