Pools were well stocked with centre backs in 2001, but Chris Turner added depth to the squad by adding young Wolves defender Gordon Simms to the squad. Simms found opportunities hard to come by but managed 13 first team appearances as well as a number of caps for Northern Ireland U21's during his time at the Vic.
