On This Day

December 17th
1996
Point of principle
Pools were rocked when manager Mick Tait and his assistant Brian Honour both resigned from their jobs on this day in 1996. The move was a reaction to the news that the reserve and youth teams were to be scrapped as part of a cost-saving exercise. The situation was resolved three days later and both men withdrew their resignations.
