Billy Ayre RIP
He's here, he's there... Billy Ayre, who died on this day in 2002, was a superb no-nonsense defender for Pools in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He was player of the year in his first season after finishing as top scorer from centre half! Ayre later enjoyed a career in management, leading Blackpool to playoff victory against Scunthorpe in 1992.
