Wandering star
One of the first African footballers to ply his trade in England was born on this day in 1897. Tewfik Abdallah joined Pools in 1924 after starting his career in his native Egypt and also enjoying short spells with Derby, Cowdenbeath and Bridgend and made just eleven appearances before continuing his nomadic career in America.
