Young goalkeeper Mark Cook was picked up from Newcastle in the summer of 2008. He spent most of first his season at the Vic playing for the reserves while Jan Budtz and Arran Lee-Barrett competed for the first team shirt. When both of those goalkeepers were released in the summer of 2009 Cook was promoted to number two in the pecking order behind new signing Scott Flinders. He was on the bench for almost every game during 2009/10 but never managed to displace Flinders from the first team. With his first team chances looking slim, Cook was released in the summer of 2010.
