Attacking left back Darren Holden made his first appearance for the youth team in the summer of 2010, shortly before his 17th birthday. He made a promising start in his first two years, playing regularly for the reserves either as a left back or on the left of midfield. He made his first team debut on the last day of the 2010/11 season, and added three more appearances during the following season. Holden was offered a pro deal in April 2012 and made some encouraging strides in the 2012/13 season, managing a dozen starts in the Football League and occasionally keeping the more experienced Evan Horwood out of the side. As an inexperienced youngster he is still prone to the odd defensive error, and his future may yet lie in a more attacking role as he looks to secure a regular place in the side.
