Marcus Carver became Graeme Lee's first signing as Pools manager when he joined the club from Southport in January 2022. The striker began his career at Accrington Stanley and was a member of their first team squad for five seasons while also enjoying several loan spells with non-league clubs in the north west. On leaving Stanley in 2016, Carver spent four seasons at Chorley before joining Southport. A productive first half to the 2021/22 season with the Sandgrounders caught the attention of Football League clubs, and Pools made their move once the transfer window opened in the new year. A muscle strain contributed to a slow start to his Pools career, and in his absence Pools signed another striker in Omar Bogle. Carver struggled to hold down a regular place for the remainder of the season, with most of his appearances coming from the substitutes' bench. he left in the summer of 2022, with Scunthorpe United paying a small fee for his services.
