Dave Challinor signed midfielder Matty Daly on loan from Huddersfield at the beginning of the 2021/22 season. The 20-year-old did a good job during his time at the club, providing an energy in midfield and a willingness to shoot at goal. The highlight of his spell was a stunning winner as Pools came from 2-0 behind to defeat Harrogate at the Vic. Daly also showed a particular liking for the Football League Trophy, scoring five times in the Papa John's-sponsored competition before being recalled by Huddersfield as Pools prepared to face Charlton in the quarter-finals. During the remainder of his time with Huddersfield, Daly enjoyed further loan spells with Bradford and Harrogate, eventually signing for the latter after his release from the Terriers in 2023. He spent two more seasons with Harrogate before rejoining Pools, this time in a permanent deal, in the summer of 2025
