Winger Harry Kirk made an excellent start to his Hartlepool career, scoring 4 in his first 5 games including 2 on his debut against Brandford Park Avenue in October 1969. But as the season progressed Kirk, like everyone else in the Pools side, struggled for goals as the club finished 23rd. Kirk`s goal at Stockport the next season provided a bit of club history as he became the first substitute to score a league goal for Pools. He went on to play for Scunthorpe and Stockport.
