Versatile Welshman Billy Poyntz made the headlines while playing for Leeds United in 1922 when he scored a hat-trick against Leicester City on his wedding day! He went on to have a short but nomadic career, with spells at Doncaster, Northampton, Bradford Park Avenue and Crewe between leaving Elland Road in 1923 and arriving at Pools in 1927. He stayed just one season at the Vic during which he played 32 times, mainly in defence. He did not add to his career tally of 27 league goals.
