Inside forward Bill Brown began his league career at West Ham United. During his time with the Hammers he played in the first Wembley FA Cup Final in 1923 and won his only England cap, scoring in a 2-2 draw against Belgium in Antwerp. After spells at Chelsea, Fulham and Stockport, Brown came to Pools in 1931 and scored 3 times in his 13 appearances for the club. A good all-round sportsman, Brown was also a successful local-league cricketer.
