After a decade of football in the Scottish league, Hugh Robertson joined Pools from Ross County in January 2004. He quickly established himself as a fans favourite with a series of thunderous left footed strikes, mainly from free-kicks. Whenever `Shuggy` was on the pitch, free-kicks anywhere near the opposition area were greeted with cries of `Huuuuugghh`, leading opposition fans to question why we booed our own free kicks! Robertson`s strike in the home game against Luton Town was awarded Pools` Goal of the Season for 2003/04. Dead ball strikes in the opening two games of the 2004/05 season enhanced Shuggy`s cult-hero status on the Victoria Park terraces. But 2004/05 was a frustrating time for Robertson as a recurring foot injury kept him out for large parts of the season. The following season was even worse with almost the whole campaign lost to injury, and Robertson was released by the club at the end of the season.
