Goalkeeper Joel Dixon was a product of Sunderland's youth academy but spent a short time with Pools' youth team in 2011 before returning to his parent club to continue his development. With just a day to go before the start of the 2014/15 season, Dixon made the short journey to Pools once again. Second choice goalkeeper Andy Rafferty sustained an injury and Dixon was drafted in as emergency cover ahead of the opening game at Stevenage. When regular Pools keeper Ben Killip left the club following relegation from the EFL in 2023, Dixon arrived as his replacement. Since his last appearance for HUFC, Dixon had enjoyed spells at Barrow and Bolton Wanderers.
