Powerfully-built full back Brown became Allenby Chilton`s first signing when he arrived in July 1962. Brown had began his career in his native Scotland and was captain of Third Lanark before making the journey south to Tranmere Rovers where he spent a year and a half. Despite interest from third division Peterborough and Bristol Rovers, Brown elected to join Pools as he preferred to live in the north. He spent two seasons at the Vic, making 68 league appearances and scoring 10 goals.
