Attacking midfielder/striker Adam Campbell was brought to Pools on a loan deal from Newcastle United during Paul Murray's brief reign as manager in 2014/15. He made just two appearances before returning to St James Park, with Murray's replacement Ronnie Moore deciding not to retain his services. He was released by Newcastle in 2015 and went on to play a lot of his football at lower levels, including spells at Notts County, Darlington and Gateshead. In 2023/24 he was part of Crawley Town's side that won promotion from League Two. He was offered a new deal at Broadfield Stadium but chose instead to leave and return to his native north-east. He signed for Pools in June 2024
