Hartlepool born centre-half David Linighan began his career at his home town club and made his debut as a 17-year-old in 1982. After over 100 appearances, many of them alongside his brother Andy, Linighan moved on and enjoyed a good career at a higher level, chiefly at Ipswich for whom he played over 300 games. In later years he dropped back down the divisions, and lined up against Pools for Mansfield Town in the late 90s.
