Danish goalkeeper Jan Budtz was a back-page sensation when, on his English professional debut, he came on as a substitute for Doncaster Rovers in a League Cup tie against Manchester City and saved two penalties as Rovers won the shootout 3-0. Despite this remarkable start, Budtz never really nailed down a first-team spot at Doncaster, making just 27 starts in 2 seasons. He was released in the summer of 2007 and snapped up by Danny Wilson. Budtz spent a frustrating couple of years at Pools as he competed with Arran Lee-Barrett for a starting place. Neither keeper really managed to establish himself and while Budtz produced some good performances he let himself down with some basic errors which cost his side goals. Both Budtz and Lee-Barrett were released in May 2009.
