On a frantic day of activity, Mick Tait signed no less than five players on transfer deadline day in 1997. Former captain Paul baker returned as player-coach and he was accompanied by Scarborough full backs Darren Knowles and Richard Lucas, Morpeth midfielder Jon Cullen and hometown boy Michael Brown, who joined on loan from Manchester City.
