The most famous moment of Paul Robinson`s career came in Ruud Gullit`s last game in charge of Newcastle United. Robinson was chosen to start up front in place of Alan Shearer against Sunderland in a game that Newcastle lost, costing Gullit his job. Robinson went on to have a frustrating spell at Wimbledon before signing for Pools at the start of the 2003/04 season. Robbo had an encouraging start to his Pools career, briefly leading the divisional scoring charts after a hat-trick in the 8-1 demolition of Grimsby. Sadly his season petered out due to injuries and loss of form. At the end of the season Robinson was offered a short term contract but opted for the security of a longer deal at York City. His time at Bootham Crescent was brief and he was released at the end of the season. He had a similarly disappointing year at Torquay before beginning a lengthy tour of the non-league scene. A once-promising career had produced so little.
